Rajnandini Jodha, the RJS 2024 topper with Rank 9, is a B.Tech graduate who found her true calling in law, inspired by her father and sister, both of whom are lawyers. She completed her LLB from Bangaur Law College, Pali, and began preparing for the judiciary during her final year of law school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Despite not clearing the mains in her first attempt in 2021, she refined her approach and secured a top rank in 2024. Rajnandini balanced her RJS preparation<\/a><\/strong> with her role as a Junior Legal Officer (JLO) in the GST Department.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: When did you decide to pursue a career in law and the judiciary? Can you share your journey with us?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: I am a B.Tech graduate. My father and sister are both lawyers, and their careers inspired me to pursue law. During my final year of law school, I decided to aim for the Rajasthan Judicial Services<\/a> (RJS) exam<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: Where did you complete your law degree?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: I completed my LLB from Bangaur Law College, Pali.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: Did you start your RJS preparation during your final year of law school?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: Yes. I began my RJS preparation during my final year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: How did your first attempt at the RJS exam differ from your recent attempt?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: In my first attempt in 2021, I didn\u2019t clear the mains. I realized that my answer writing style needed improvement. I revised my notes, worked on my writing skills, and focused on securing good marks in law, which helped me in the recent attempt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: Many candidates have different strategies for prelims, mains, and interviews. What was your approach?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: I didn\u2019t prepare separately for prelims and mains; I worked on both simultaneously. The 45 days we had for mains preparation were limited, so I continued studying from my earlier notes and focused on consistent effort. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

During this time, I also balanced my role as a Junior Legal Officer (JLO).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: What was your study schedule like during those 45 days before the mains?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: I took leave from my JLO office and studied in the library from 7 am, taking breaks only for lunch and dinner. Studying with friends provided significant support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: How did you plan your studies based on your strengths and weaknesses in specific subjects?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: I divided my time between Civil and Criminal Law. For Civil Law, I focused on CPC first, covering it in 8-10 days, followed by the Constitution, TP, and Contract. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Criminal Law, I followed a similar process and ensured daily practice of Evidence, as it is a scoring subject in both areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: How did you prepare for the English and Hindi writing sections in the mains?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: My Hindi writing was slow, so I practiced daily by writing a page from a newspaper article, which helped improve my speed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

For English, despite some unexpected questions, my newspaper practice paid off. Interestingly, I had prepared the Chandrayaan-3 topic in Hindi, but it appeared in English, which turned out to be advantageous.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: Before the interview, did you expect to secure Rank 9 or a single-digit rank?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: No. I didn\u2019t expect such a high rank. It was unexpected, though I believed I would get selected due to my performance in the law papers. The result in English was a pleasant surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: There was some controversy during the interview process. Did it affect you?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: I didn\u2019t let it affect me. I believed that any impact would be on all candidates equally, so I focused on my performance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: Did you feel any pressure from your family about clearing the exam?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: My family and friends were very supportive. They always encouraged me to give my best, which boosted my confidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: Were you mentally prepared for the types of questions asked during the interview?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: The questions were unexpected. I anticipated questions related to my work as a JLO and my LL.M. in Criminal Law, but most questions were from Civil Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: What kind of questions were asked from Civil Law during the interview?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: The interview began with a question about “Pran Nyaya,” and the discussion flowed from there. The panel allowed me to respond in Hindi, which helped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: Were you satisfied with your overall interview experience?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: Yes. It was a mixed experience. The panel was interactive, asking questions and providing explanations, making it difficult for me to gauge how well I was performing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: What advice would you give to young women considering a legal career?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: A career in law, especially in the judiciary, is excellent for women. The lower judiciary is seeing more women, which is encouraging. I would advise young women to start preparing early and aim for this field.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: How active were you on social media during your preparation?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: I was not very active on social media throughout my preparation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: What was the duration of your preparation? Did you take any breaks?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: I started my preparation in 2019. Although I faced some demotivation after the mains result in 2022, I resumed preparation with renewed focus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

LPJ<\/strong>: What would you say to candidates who need to reattempt the exam?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Rajnandini<\/strong>: Staying motivated is crucial. Even when I felt demoralized, I reminded myself of my goal. Consistent hard work paid off, and it will for others too. Keep pushing forward with determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
