The Consortium of National Law Universities has modified the CLAT exam format for 2024 for admission to undergraduate programs beginning in the academic year 2024-2025. The CLAT exam is to be held in offline mode for 2 hours for a total of 120 marks.

CLAT Exam Pattern 2024 Highlights 

The emphasis of CLAT 2024 would be on testing your understanding and reasoning abilities. The following are the main highlights of the CLAT exam pattern:  

1. Passage-based questions:  

The Passage-based questions will be asked in the CLAT section of the English Language, Current Affairs, Legal Reasoning, and Logical Reasoning. Each passage will be up to 450 words. A series of questions will be asked from each passage, and the standard of the passage and questions will be of class 12th standard. 

2. Quantitative Technique section: 

In the quantitative technique section, a short set of facts, propositions, graphs, pictoral, textual, or diagrammatic representations of numerical information. It will be necessary for you to derive information from the passages or questions and apply mathematical operations to such information.

3. Total questions and marks: 

There will be 120 multiple-choice questions (MCQ) in the CLAT exam, and each question is worth one (1) mark. An incorrect response will result in a 0.25 mark deduction.

4. Exam difficulty level: 

The difficulty level of CLAT 2024 will be Class 12, and in the case of the Quantitative Techniques questions, they will be of Class 10.

CLAT Current Affairs will also consist of passage-based questions. Each passage will be up to 450 words long, followed by a series of questions. The passage and questions will be of 12th grade level. III. Legal Reasoning

In Legal Reasoning, the paragraphs will be about actual events or scenarios involving legal issues or public policy issues. You will not need any prior knowledge of the law, in order to answer the questions in this section of the CLAT exam.

You will benefit from a general grasp of modern legal and moral challenges to better apply general concepts or propositions to the supplied factual scenarios. 

A series of questions will be in each passage to test you on: 

(i) Identify and infer the rules and concepts outlined in the passage;

(ii) Apply these rules and concepts to a variety of factual circumstances; and

(iii) Understand how modifications to the principles or rules may affect how they are applied in different factual situations.

V. Qunatitative Techniques

Short sets of facts or propositions, or other textual representations of numerical information, and a series of questions will be asked in the Quantitative Techniques for CLAT 2024. You will be required to derive information from the passages or questions and apply mathematical operations to such information.

The questions will require you to:

1. Derive, infer, and manipulate numerical information set out in such passages;
2. Apply various 10th standard mathematical operations to such information, including from areas such as ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration, and statistical estimation.

Assessing your aptitude for employing mathematical operations to solve problems and extract information from structured data is the primary purpose of Quantitative Techniques for CLAT 2024. It will evaluate basic arithmetic skills and data interpretation abilities.

Important Topics for CLAT Quantitative Techniques 2024

A variety of topics are included in the quantitative techniques for the CLAT syllabus. We have divided various topics into three (3) sub-heads on the basis of priority, for your convenience.

1st Priority 

These are primary topics of CLAT quantitative techniques section. You can solve these topics without making any errors. This includes:

Three types of questions can be asked about normal time, speed, and distance: relative time, speed, and distance; and questions relating to boat and speed. 

It may be noted that in such topics, questions related to average, percentage, or ratio may also be included.

3rd Priority

The 3rd priority list includes : 

1. Mensuration
2. Probability

The problems of finding the areas, volume and surface area of geometric figures are asked in mensuration

Probability means possibility. It deals with the occurrence of a random event.

Miscellaneous

This includes : 

1. Crypt Arithmetic
2. Venn Diagram

Crypto arithmetic is included in the sample papers recently released by the Consortium of NLU on their official website. 

Venn Diagram questions are the most straightforward questions in the CLAT quantitative techniques syllabus. One simple trick to recognize such questions is to look for the words ‘both’, ‘at least’, ‘none of the above’. Such questions can be found in the venn diagram section.  

Both logical based as well as pure math will be asked in the CLAT quantitative technique section. It is essential to know that the CLAT quantitative techniques questions need not necessarily be pure math. Logical based quantitative technique questions can also be asked from you.
