CLAT Maths Questions With Answers

Ques 1: A merchant can buy goods at the rate of Rs. 20 per good. The particular good is part of an overall collection and the value is linked to the number of items that are already on the market. So, the merchant sells the first good for Rs. 2, second one for Rs. 4, third for Rs. 6…and so on. If he wants to make an overall profit of at least 40%, what is the minimum number of goods he should sell?

  1. 24
  2. 18
  3. 27
  4. 32

Answer: 3

Ques 2: A is x% more than B and is x% of sum of A and B. What is the value of x?

  1. 50%
  2. 62%
  3. 75%
  4. 37%

Answer: 2

Ques 3: A, B, C and D share a loot. A gets a% of the total. B gets b% of the remaining (after A has taken his share). C gets c% of the remaining and D gets the rest. D gets a% less than what A gets, B and C get equal amounts. b = 2a.

1. What percentage of what A got did C get?

2. If the total amount is equal to Rs. 1000, what is the difference between what A got and what D got?

  1. 160%, A got Rs.40 more than D
  2. 80%, A got Rs.20 more than D
  3. 175%, A got Rs.50 more than D
  4. 150%, A got Rs.35 more than D

Answer: 1 (A got ₹40 more than D)

Ques4: A solid right circular cone of height 27 cm is cut into pieces along a plane parallel to its base at a height of 18 cm from the base. If the difference in volume of the two pieces is 225 cc, the volume, in cc, of the original cone is

  1. 243
  2. 232
  3. 256
  4. 264

If height becomes 1/3rd then radius also becomes 1/3rd

If both height and radius become 1313rd, Volume will be 1/27th

So, Top part’s volume = V

Remaining part = 26V

Totally = 27V

Given 26 V – V = 225

V = 9

27 V = 243

Ques 5: A man makes complete use of 405 cc of iron, 783 cc of aluminium, and 351 cc of copper to make a number of solid right circular cylinders of each type of metal. These cylinders have the same volume and each of these has radius 3 cm. If the total number of cylinders is to be kept at a minimum, then the total surface area of all these cylinders, in sq cm, is

  1. 8464π
  2. 928π
  3. 1026(1 + π)
  4. 1044(4 + π)

As cylinders have the same volume, each of these has a radius of 3 cm. So the volume of each cylinder will be equal to HCF of (405, 783, and 351) which is 27.

So the volume of each cylinder = 27

No of cylinders = [ 405/27 ] + [783/27] + [351/27] = 15 + 29 + 13 =57

Using V = πr^2 h

27 = 22/7 *9 *h

So h = 3/ π cm
