Haryana Judiciary (HJS) Syllabus 2024: Pre and Mains

Haryana Judicial Services Exam Pattern

The Haryana Judicial Services Examination is conducted in three stages: Preliminary Exam, Mains Exam, and Interview.

HJS Preliminary Exam- 

Question paper with multiple choice questions representing the objective nature of the Preliminary stage-

  • The Preliminary Exam is an objective-type exam consisting of 125 questions with four marks each. The total marks for the Preliminary Exam are 500. The Preliminary Exam is qualifying in nature.
  • The duration of the preliminary exam is 2 hours.
  • There is a negative marking of 0.80 for every wrong answer.

HJS Mains Exam-

  • The Mains Exam is a descriptive-type exam consisting of 5 papers of 200 marks each and 1 paper of 100 marks. The total marks for the Mains Exam are 900. 
  • After being successful in the Mains Exam, the candidates are then shortlisted for the Interview based on their performance in the Mains Exam.

HJS Interview

  • Several panels of judges and other senior government officials conduct the interview.
  • They assess you on various aspects of current legal and world affairs. They ask questions about real-life situations you might encounter as a judicial officer.
  • They assess you on your perseverance and how you can perform under pressure.
  • The interview stage is the last stage of the recruitment in Haryana Judicial Services.

Haryana Judicial Services Exam Syllabus

The Haryana Judicial Service Exam Syllabus is vast and covers a wide range of topics.

  • The mains exam is based on subjective patterns and assesses your answer writing skills, knowledge, and personal opinion on any current legal or international issue.
  • The mains exam evaluates your judgement writing skills on any problem-specific question.

Haryana Judiciary Syllabus for Interview/Viva-Voce Exam

  • The interview is of 200 marks. 
  • The interview stage is the final stage of the Haryana Judicial Services Exam.
  • A panel of judges and senior government officials interviews the selected candidates.
  • The questions that are asked in the interview are related to India and International Current Affairs. 
  • The questions are asked to test your overall personality and whether you can excel in under-pressure situations.
  • The questions are from real-life based situations also.
  • To prepare for the interview, you should be aware of current issues that are leading news.
  • You must inculcate the habit of reading the newspaper daily to be updated with current affairs, for example, The Hindu and any leading GK monthly magazine.
  • Enhance your speaking skills by discussing with friends and family any current legal issue or leading judgement to know different perspectives on a particular topic.
