Thousands of people in Albania have launched the "Flamingo Revolution" to oppose a proposed US$1.6 billion luxury tourism project over concerns of environmental destruction and governance failures.

What is the Flamingo Revolution?

• A mass environmental and anti-corruption protest movement in Albania.
• Initially began against a luxury tourism project threatening ecologically sensitive wetlands.

• Built upon the Surakshit Matritva Aashwasan (SUMAN) initiative.

• Coverage: Targets 130 districts across 13 high-focus states

Key Targets (by 2030)

• Reduce Maternal Mortality Ratio (MMR) to below 70 per 100,000 live births.
• Reduce Neonatal Mortality Rate (NMR).
• Reduce Infant Mortality Rate (IMR).
• Achieve zero preventable maternal and newborn deaths.
• Accelerate progress towards SDG 3 (Good Health and Well-being).

Revival of the Ancient Shastrarth Tradition

Prime Minister Narendra Modi hailed the revival of Śāstrārtha, India's ancient tradition of scholarly debate, at Nalanda University during Śāstrārtha 2026, organised ahead of the university's third convocation.

What is Śāstrārtha?

• Śāstrārtha literally means "discussion (artha) on scriptures (śāstra)."
• It is the ancient Indian tradition of structured scholarly debate and philosophical dialogue on religion, philosophy, logic, ethics, grammar, law, and other branches of knowledge.
• It served as a pedagogical method for teaching, learning, testing knowledge, and refining ideas through reasoned argument rather than mere memorisation.
• Participants defended their viewpoints using logic (Nyaya), evidence, and scriptural references, while respecting intellectual rigor.

Nalanda University

• Founded: 427 CE
• Founder: Emperor Kumaragupta I (Gupta Dynasty)
• Location: Rajgir, Nalanda district, Bihar.
• Widely regarded as the world's first residential university.
• Flourished for nearly 800 years before its decline in the 12th century CE.
• The most famous visitor was the Chinese monk Xuanzang, whose detailed accounts remain an important historical source. He carried hundreds of Buddhist manuscripts back to China for translation.

Revival of Nalanda

Delhi Approves EV Policy 2.0

The Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi has approved the Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2.0 to accelerate the transition towards zero-emission mobility.
