NLSAT 2027: Preparation Strategy
Preparing for NLSAT 2027 requires a different approach from an MCQ-only entrance exam. You need enough speed to score strongly in Part A while also learning to write clear and convincing answers in Part B.
1. Prepare for the Part A Shortlisting First
Your first target should be to score high enough in Part A for your Part B script to be evaluated. Do not treat Part A as merely qualifying.
Take mixed timed NLSAT mock tests containing reading comprehension, critical reasoning and general awareness. Track your raw score, negative marks, unanswered questions and accuracy separately. Because leaving a question unanswered also costs marks, practise deciding quickly whether elimination gives you a reasonable chance of selecting the correct option.
2. Build Reading Ability Through Argument-Based Reading
Do not limit your reading practice to short passages from test books. Read long editorials, essays, policy articles, opinion pieces and social-science writing.
After each article, identify:
- Main argument
- Evidence used
- Assumptions

- Author’s conclusion
Then write a 3-4 sentence summary without looking back at the article. This directly improves comprehension, critical reasoning and Part B analytical writing.
3. Analyse Critical Reasoning Mistakes by Type

Read the facts carefully, identify the legal issue, apply the principle logically and explain why your conclusion follows. Your answer should show reasoning rather than simply giving “yes” or “no.”
6. Start Part B Writing From the Beginning
Do not wait until one or two months before the exam to practise subjective answers. Part B writing needs regular practice.
Every week, write:
- 2 short legal reasoning answers
- 1 analytical essay
- 1 current-affairs based argumentative response
Time yourself. Then check whether your answer has a clear position, logical sequence and relevant evidence. Good writing is not about difficult vocabulary. It is about making your reasoning easy to follow.
7. Practise Full-Length Papers Under 150 Minutes
Section-wise practice is useful initially, but NLSAT requires you to manage both objective and subjective work within one exam window.
Take regular 150-minute mocks. Test different time allocations between Part A and Part B. Find a split that gives you enough time to answer MCQs carefully while preserving sufficient time for legal responses and essay writing.
Do not finalise your exam-day time strategy without testing it in at least 8-10 full-length mocks.
8. Give More Time to Mock Analysis Than Mock Attempts
Taking many mocks without analysis will not improve your score quickly.
After every mock, check:
- Questions you got wrong

- Questions you left unanswered
- Time-consuming passages
