Under the NLSAT 2027 eligibility criteria, General category candidates need at least 45% aggregate marks, while SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD candidates need at least 40% aggregate marks in graduation.
You can also apply if you are currently in the final year of your bachelor's degree. However, your admission will remain conditional until you complete the degree with the required minimum marks.
Final-year candidates must submit proof of completing their qualifying degree by December 31, 2027. Your bachelor's degree can be in arts, commerce, science, engineering, management or any other discipline, so you do not need a previous law degree to appear for NLSAT 2027.

Educational Qualification Required for NLSAT 2027 Eligibility
To meet the NLSAT 2027 educational qualification requirement, you must hold a bachelor’s degree in any discipline from a recognised national or international university. Students currently studying in the final year of their undergraduate degree can also apply. There is no requirement to have studied law during graduation.
You are eligible to apply if:
- You hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised Indian university.
- You hold a bachelor’s degree from a recognised international university.
- Your degree is in any discipline, including arts, commerce, science, management, computer applications, engineering or another recognised field.
- You are currently in the final year of your bachelor’s degree, provided you complete the degree and meet the applicable minimum marks requirement.
- You have not studied law previously, as a prior law degree is not required for admission to the 3-Year LL.B. (Hons.) programme.
NLSAT Eligibility Criteria: Minimum Marks Required in Graduation
The minimum graduation percentage required for NLSAT depends on your category. General category applicants must have at least 45% aggregate marks in their bachelor’s degree, while SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD candidates receive a relaxation and need at least 40% aggregate marks.
Final-year students must also eventually meet the applicable percentage requirement before their admission can become final.

Can Final-Year Students Apply for NLSAT Exam?
Yes, final-year bachelor’s degree students can apply for NLSAT 2027. You do not need to have your final graduation result at the time of submitting the NLSAT application.
However, keep these conditions in mind:
- You must successfully complete your bachelor’s degree.
- You must meet the applicable minimum aggregate marks requirement.
- General category candidates need at least 45% aggregate marks.
- SC/ST/OBC-NCL/PWD candidates need at least 40% aggregate marks.
- Your admission remains conditional until you satisfy the graduation requirement.
- You must submit proof of completing your qualifying degree no later than December 31, 2027.
Is a Law Background Required for NLSAT Eligibility?
No, you do not need a law background to apply for the NLSAT examination. NLSIU Bangalore accepts bachelor’s degrees from any discipline. You can apply after studying arts, commerce, science, engineering, management or another recognised field. A previous LL.B. or legal education is not required for NLSAT eligibility.

NLSAT 2027 Eligibility Criteria for Karnataka Students
NLSIU provides 25% horizontal compartmentalised reservation for Karnataka Students. The general rule is that you should have studied for at least seven years in a recognised educational institution in Karnataka to qualify under this category.
Candidates who have not completed seven years of study in Karnataka may still qualify in specific circumstances involving their parents’ service outside Karnataka.
