1. NLSAT Cut Off for General Category

The General category has the highest vertical-category cut-off. The official All India General cut-off was 96.25 in 2026, compared with historical figures of around 90+ to 92+ in earlier years.

For NLSAT 2027, a score around 95-100 can be considered a reasonable expected competitive zone, though the actual cut-off may move depending on the paper.

2. NLSAT Cut Off for OBC-NCL

The official OBC-NCL All India cut-off in 2026 was 80.25, while Karnataka OBC-NCL stood at 75.5.

Based on historical trends, OBC-NCL aspirants should avoid treating 80 as a fixed target. A stronger aim would be several marks above the recent benchmark.

3. NLSAT Cut Off for EWS 

The official EWS All India cut-off in 2026 was 84.75, while the Karnataka figure was 84.5.

This shows that EWS can remain noticeably higher than OBC-NCL, so both categories should not be treated as one when planning your score target.

4. NLSAT Cut Off for SC

The official NLSAT 2026 SC cut-off was 66.5 for both All India and Karnataka.

Previous historical data had SC/ST grouped together at higher broad ranges, so the 2026 official category-wise figures are more useful for setting a current preparation benchmark.

5. NLSAT Cut Off for ST

The official NLSAT 2026 ST cut-off was 62.5.

The final cut-off can change with the number of eligible candidates, relative performance and applicable reservation rules, so you should still target comfortably above the latest benchmark.

6. NLSAT Cut Off for PWD

PWD is a 5% horizontal reservation category. The 2026 provisional admission cut-off was 63.5.

Because PWD reservation operates horizontally, the number should be understood along with the candidate’s applicable vertical category.

7. NLSAT Cut Off for Karnataka Domicile

NLSIU provides 25% horizontal compartmentalised reservation for Karnataka Students, and this can lead to a different cut-off from the All India figure.

For NLSAT 2027, you should target above the expected cut-off instead of trying to finish exactly on it.

How is the NLSAT Cut-Off Calculated?

Several factors affect the final figure.

• Difficulty Level of NLSAT: A difficult paper generally produces lower overall scores, which can reduce the admission cut-off. An easier paper may have the opposite effect.
• Number of Available Seats: NLSIU admits a limited number of students to the 3-Year LL.B. programme. A smaller seat-to-candidate ratio increases competition.
• Performance of Candidates: Cut-offs are relative to how the applicant pool performs. If many students score highly, the final admission threshold can rise.
• Category and Reservation: General, OBC-NCL, EWS, SC and ST categories have different admission cut-offs. Horizontal reservations such as PWD, Women and Karnataka Students also affect the final admission process.
• Part A Shortlisting: Part A is evaluated first and determines which candidates move forward for Part B evaluation.
• Combined Part A and Part B Performance: The final merit process considers the combined performance in Part A and Part B, making subjective preparation important as well.

Is NLSAT Cut-Off Based Only on Part A?

No. The final NLSAT admission cut-off is not based only on Part A. Part A is evaluated first and is used to shortlist candidates whose Part B scripts will be checked. However, once Part B is evaluated, the combined Part A and Part B score is used for the final merit process.

The impact was clear in NLSAT 2026. General All India closed at 96.25, while General Karnataka was 87.5. Similarly, OBC-NCL was 80.25 All India compared with 75.5 for Karnataka.

How to Prepare With the NLSAT 2027 Cut-Off in Mind?

• Do Not Make the Previous Cut-Off Your Target: If General closed at 96.25 last year, preparing only to reach 96 is risky. Your mock target should include a buffer for yearly variation.
• Track Your Score Against Your Own Category: Do not compare only with the General cut-off if you belong to another category. Use the most relevant official historical figure for your admission route.
• Prepare Part A for Strong Shortlisting: You first need Part A performance good enough for your Part B script to be evaluated. Track accuracy, negative marks, reading speed and unanswered questions in every mock.
• Do Not Ignore Part B: The final merit process depends on both parts. Practise legal reasoning answers and analytical writing from the beginning rather than after finishing Part A preparation.
• Take Full-Length NLSAT Mocks Regularly: Sectional practice cannot show whether you can manage Part A and Part B under the same time pressure. Take full-length NLSAT mocks, calculate your score properly and track whether you remain above your target over several attempts.
