The salary of President of India per month is ₹5,00,000. 

Earlier, before Budget 2017, the President used to get ₹1.50 lakh per month. The salary was later revised to match the dignity and responsibility of India’s highest constitutional office. The President is the Head of State, the First Citizen of India, and the Supreme Commander of all three armed forces: the Army, Air Force, and Navy.

Pension of President of India After Retirement

A retired President of India gets a lifetime pension of ₹2.5 lakh per month. This is 50% of the current monthly salary of the President, which is ₹5 lakh.

50% of ₹5,00,000 = ₹2,50,000 per month

Other important points:

• The pension is given for the rest of the former President’s life.
• It is charged on the Consolidated Fund of India.
• A retired President also gets residence, medical, travel, staff, and office expense support.
• If a person served as Vice-President before becoming President, separate pension benefits for the Vice-President post are not claimed under this Act.

Mobile Phone	One mobile phone with national roaming is provided.
Motor Car	One motor car is provided free of charge, or car allowance may be given.
Secretarial Staff	A retired President gets staff support, including Private Secretary, Additional Private Secretary, Personal Assistant, and two Peons.
Office Expenses	Office expenses are allowed up to ₹1 lakh per year.
Official Support	These facilities help a former President manage official, public, and formal responsibilities after leaving office.

Family Pension for Spouse of President

If a President dies while holding office or after retirement, the spouse receives family pension. This family pension is equal to 50% of the pension admissible to a retiring President. 

This benefit is given to support the spouse after the death of the President and is covered under the President’s Emoluments and Pension Act, 1951.

Does the President of India Pay Tax on Salary?

Yes, the salary of the President of India is taxable. The official Rashtrapati Bhavan RTI/FAQ page also states that the President’s salary is taxable. However, the salary should not be confused with official facilities. Residence, staff, security, travel, and other facilities are attached to the office of the President and are provided for official duties. These are not the President’s personal property.
