Before filling the application form, every aspirant must understand the SLAT eligibility criteria clearly. SIU has strict rules regarding qualification, category selection, reservation, documents, domicile, and program-wise requirements. 

The eligibility for SLAT exam begins with passing Class 12 with minimum marks, but also includes important conditions for SC/ST candidates, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), Children/Wards of Defence Personnel, and Nagpur Domicile candidates. 

Meeting the eligibility criteria is mandatory; if any information is incorrect or unverified during admission, SIU cancels the candidature immediately. Below is the complete, updated, and authentic eligibility criteria for SLAT 2026 based on the official notification.

The basic requirement to appear for SLAT 2026 is passing Class 12 (10+2) or an equivalent examination from any recognised board in India or abroad. Students from CBSE, ICSE, State Boards, NIOS, IB, Cambridge (A-Levels) and other recognised boards are eligible.

The minimum marks required are 45% for General/OBC categories and 40% for SC/ST candidates. Students appearing for Class 12 in 2026 can also apply, but they must produce proof of passing during admission.

There is no upper age limit for appearing in the SLAT exam. Any candidate who meets the educational qualification and category requirements can apply, regardless of age. 

This makes SLAT accessible to Class 12 students, repeaters, gap-year students, and older candidates.

SLAT reserves 3% of seats for PwD candidates within the sanctioned intake, as per Government of India regulations. Only candidates with disabilities recognised under the Persons with Disabilities Act and subsequent Gazette notifications are eligible. 

These include:

  • Locomotor disabilities (e.g., cerebral palsy, muscular dystrophy, dwarfism)
  • Visual impairment (blindness, low vision)
  • Hearing impairment (deaf, hard of hearing)
  • Speech and language disability
  • Intellectual disabilities (ASD, SLD, mental illness)
  • Chronic neurological disorders (Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s)
  • Blood disorders (Haemophilia, Thalassemia, Sickle Cell Disease)

Candidates must upload a valid Disability Certificate and UDID Card at the time of registration. SIU’s Medical Board verifies all documents through SUHRC before granting eligibility under PwD.

Symbiosis reserves 5% of seats within the sanctioned intake ONLY for the BA LLB (Hons.) and BBA LLB (Hons.) programs at SLS Pune under the “Children/Wards of Defence Personnel” category.

Eligible candidates include:

  • Children of serving Defence personnel from the Army, Navy, or Air Force
  • Children of retired Defence personnel classified as ex-servicemen under Govt. rules
  • Children of Defence personnel who died while in service or after retirement

Candidates applying under this category must select this category separately for each program at SLS Pune during registration. They must also submit valid supporting documents during the PI process.

SLS Nagpur reserves 25% of seats (within the sanctioned intake) exclusively for candidates who fulfill the Nagpur domicile requirement, based on the official lease conditions between Symbiosis and Nagpur Municipal Corporation.

Who Qualifies as a Nagpur Domicile Candidate?

1. Residence Criterion

The candidate must be a resident of Nagpur Urban for at least 5 years (continuous or intermittent) before the academic year begins.

2. Educational Criterion (Must meet ANY ONE)

Candidate is a graduate or pursuing graduation from Nagpur University

OR

Candidate has completed Class 10 and Class 12 from:

  • Maharashtra State Board
  • CISCE
  • CBSE
  • ICSE

Important: Class 10 & 12 from OTHER state boards or foreign boards do NOT qualify.

These seats do not fall under the main intake and are provided additionally.

Foreign Nationals, NRIs, OCIs, and PIOs are eligible for admission under the International Category, which operates outside the SLAT process.

  • They apply through the Symbiosis International Office.
  • SLAT exam is not mandatory for these categories.
  • Admission depends on academic performance, document verification, and seat availability.
  • Candidates must submit a valid passport, visa, and proof of nationality/OCI/PIO status.
  • This category is over and above the regular intake.

Candidates must provide true and accurate information during registration; incorrect data leads to cancellation.
