CLAT 2026 2nd Allotment List (Out): Second Merit List of NLUs

The CLAT 2026 2nd allotment list, also known as the second merit list of NLUs, has been published on January 22, 2026, at 10:00 AM. It is meant for candidates who were not allotted a seat in the first round, as well as those who may receive an upgraded NLU based on vacancies created after the first allotment.

Now that the second allotment list of CLAT 2026 is out, candidates must take action within the given window, which lasts till January 29, 2026, 1:00 PM.

During this period, candidates need to choose between Freeze, Float, or Exit and pay the required confirmation fee. Missing this deadline can lead to cancellation of the allotted seat and removal from further counselling rounds.

The second allotment list of CLAT 2026 is the outcome of the second round of centralised counselling conducted by the CLAT Consortium. It is prepared after accounting for seats that became vacant due to withdrawals, exits, or non-confirmation in the first round.

This list includes candidates who are allotted a seat for the first time as well as those whose seats are upgraded to a higher-preference NLU. Candidates allotted a seat in this round must confirm their intent by choosing Freeze or Float and paying the confirmation fee within the prescribed time.

If no option is exercised, the candidate is treated as not interested and is removed from the CLAT 2026 counselling process.

The CLAT 2026 second allotment list can place you in one of three situations. Understanding your exact status is important because your next action decides if you stay in counselling or lose the seat.

1. If You’re Allotted a Seat for the First Time

If your roll number appears for the first time in the second merit list of CLAT 2026, it means you were not allotted a seat in Round 1 but have now received one due to vacancies. This seat is provisional and must be confirmed within the deadline.

You must log in to your CLAT account, choose between Freeze or Float, and pay the confirmation fee. If you do not take action within the given time window, your seat will be cancelled and you will be removed from further counselling rounds.

2. If Your Seat Got Upgraded

If you were already allotted a seat in the CLAT 2026 1st allotment list and now see a different, higher-preference NLU, it means your seat has been upgraded. This usually happens when candidates above you withdraw or exit.

Your earlier seat is automatically replaced by the upgraded one. You cannot go back to the previous NLU. You still need to confirm the new allotment by selecting Freeze or Float and paying the confirmation fee again within the deadline.

3. If You’re Still Not Allotted a Seat

If your name does not appear in the CLAT 2026 2nd allotment list, it does not mean you are out of the process. Counselling happens in multiple rounds. Seats can open up in later rounds due to withdrawals, non-payment, or upgrades.

You should remain patient, keep tracking upcoming CLAT allotment lists, and ensure your counselling registration remains valid. No action is required in this round except waiting for the next list.

1. Freeze Option

The Freeze option is for candidates who are satisfied with their allotted NLU and do not want to participate in further counselling rounds. Once you freeze, your seat is confirmed and you are removed from future allotment lists.

You must pay the non-refundable confirmation fee within the deadline. Later, you will need to pay the remaining university fee directly to the allotted NLU. Choose Freeze only if you are fully satisfied with your current seat.

2. Float Option

The Float option is for candidates who accept their current seat but want to stay in counselling for a possible upgrade to a higher-preference NLU. You must still pay the confirmation fee to hold your seat.

If you get an upgrade in a later round, your earlier seat is automatically cancelled. You can never move to a lower preference. Float is available only till the fourth allotment list of CLAT 2026.

3. Exit Option

The Exit option is for candidates who do not want to continue in CLAT counselling. Once you exit, your allotted seat is cancelled and reallocated to another candidate.

You will not be considered in any further allotment lists. Refund of the counselling registration fee depends on when you exit, as per official refund rules.

Confirm Your Seat Immediately

Login to your CLAT account, check your allotment details carefully, and select Freeze or Float within the deadline. Delaying this step can result in automatic cancellation.

Pay the Confirmation Fee

Complete the confirmation fee payment within the given window. Without payment, your seat will not be secured even if you have been allotted one.

Prepare Documents for Verification

Keep all required documents ready in scanned format. Any discrepancy or missing document can lead to rejection by the allotted NLU at a later stage.

Track Upcoming Allotment Lists

If you have chosen Float, regularly monitor the counselling schedule for the next allotment list to check for possible upgrades.

After the CLAT 2026 2nd allotment list, cut-offs usually show limited but meaningful movement, especially in mid-tier and newer NLUs. Top NLUs may see minor changes, while lower-preference NLUs often see more vacancies due to upgrades and exits.

Significant movement typically happens between the second and third rounds. However, CLAT cut-off movement depends on candidate choices, withdrawals, and category-wise vacancies, so exact changes cannot be guaranteed.

If you still don’t have a seat after the second round, you have three clear options. Choose calmly and strategically.

Option 1: Stay in CLAT Counselling & Track Further Rounds

Counselling runs for five rounds, and meaningful movement often happens in the third and fourth lists due to withdrawals and upgrades. If your rank is close to recent cut-offs, staying patient can pay off.

Keep documents ready, monitor deadlines, and review NLU preference order. This option suits candidates within a realistic range of seat movement.

Option 2: Explore Other Law Entrance Exams (OLETs)

If CLAT outcomes remain uncertain, consider Other Law Entrance Tests (OLETs) and private universities with strong law programs. To prepare quickly, structured support helps—Law Prep’s online OLET coaching focus on exam-specific patterns, and their free law entrance mock tests let you assess readiness without commitment. This route widens choices without wasting the year.

Option 3: Take a Strategic Drop (With 100% Scholarship According to Your CLAT Rank)

If your goal is a top NLU and you’re close, a planned drop year can work—provided it’s structured. Law Prep’s CLAT 2027 Finisher Batch for droppers helps correct gaps, sharpen mocks, and manage revision.

Based on CLAT 2026 rank, you can get up to 100% scholarship, making the decision financially lighter and academically focused.
