2. Role of Merit-Cum-Preference

• Merit-Based: Candidates with higher CLAT 2026 ranks get priority in seat allocation.

What to Do After First Allotment List of CLAT 2026?

Once the CLAT 1st Allotment List is released, candidates must take immediate action to secure their seats or opt for further options:

1. Check Your Allotment

Review the first allotment list to confirm the NLU, category, and seat type allotted to you. Verify the details, including the seat and preference you were allotted.

2. Take Relevant Action As Per Your Preference

After having a look at the first seat allotment list of NLUs, you can choose one of the following options:

a. Accept the Allotted Seat

If satisfied with the allotted NLU, confirm your seat by paying the confirmation fee as per the schedule (by January 15, 2026). The payment ensures that your seat is secured for this round.

b. Go for Upgradation (Float Option)

If you wish to aim for a better-preferred NLU, choose the float option during the counselling process. Pay the confirmation fee to keep your current allotment valid while waiting for a better seat in the next rounds.

c. Withdraw from Counselling

If you do not wish to continue with the NLU counselling process or are unsatisfied with the allotment, you can withdraw by notifying the Consortium. 

3. Prepare for Admission to the Allotted NLU

If you’ve secured your preferred NLU, prepare the required documents for verification. Pay the university admission fee as per the instructions provided by the NLU.
