What is 3rd Allotment List of CLAT 2026?

The 3rd allotment list of CLAT 2026 represents the outcome of the third counselling round conducted centrally by the Consortium. It is prepared after accounting for exits, withdrawals, and non-confirmations from the second round, along with upgrades of floating candidates.

This round is important because it still offers meaningful seat movement, especially in mid-tier and newer NLUs. Candidates allotted a seat must confirm their intent by selecting Freeze or Float and paying the confirmation fee within the deadline.

If no option is exercised, the candidate is treated as not interested and is removed from the CLAT counselling process.

Understanding Status in CLAT 2026 3rd Merit List

For CLAT 2026 3rd allotment list, candidates fall into one of the following three situations. Your next step depends entirely on this status, so read it carefully before taking action.

If You’re Allotted a Seat for the First Time

If your name appears for the first time in the third merit list of CLAT 2026, it means a seat has opened up due to exits, non-payment, or upgrades from earlier rounds. This is a provisional allotment, not a final admission.

You must log in to your CLAT portal, review the allotted NLU, choose Freeze or Float, and pay the confirmation fee within the deadline. If you do not complete these steps on time, your seat will be cancelled and you will be removed from further counselling rounds.

If Your Seat Got Upgraded

If you were already holding a seat and now see a higher-preference NLU allotted in the third round, your seat has been upgraded. This happens only upward in your preference list. Your earlier seat is automatically cancelled, and you cannot revert to it later.

You must again confirm your acceptance by choosing Freeze or Float and paying the confirmation fee within the stipulated time. Treat an upgrade as a fresh allotment that requires immediate action.

If You’re Still Not Allotted a Seat

If you are still not allotted a seat after the third round, you are not out of the process. CLAT counselling runs for five rounds, and seats can still open in the fourth and final rounds, especially in mid-tier and newer NLUs.

At this stage, patience and planning are important. Keep tracking the next allotment dates and prepare backup options alongside.

Freeze, Float, and Exit Options in the 3rd Allotment Round

Freeze Option

The Freeze option is for candidates who are satisfied with their current allotment and do not want to participate in further counselling rounds. Once you freeze your seat, you exit the allotment process completely.

You must pay the non-refundable confirmation fee within the deadline. Later, you will also need to pay the remaining university fee to the allotted NLU by the specified date. Choose Freeze only if you are fully confident about the allotted NLU.

Float Option

The Float option allows you to accept the current seat while remaining eligible for an upgrade to a higher-preference NLU in the next round. You must still pay the confirmation fee to hold your seat.

If an upgrade happens later, your earlier seat is cancelled automatically. Float is available only up to the fourth round, so this stage requires careful judgment about upgrade chances.

Exit Option

The Exit option is meant for candidates who do not wish to continue in CLAT counselling. Once you exit, your allotted seat is cancelled and offered to another candidate. You will not be considered in any future allotment lists.

Refund of the counselling registration fee depends on the timing of exit, as per the official refund rules. Exit should be chosen only after evaluating all alternatives.

What to Do After Getting a Seat in the 3rd Allotment?

Confirm Your Choice Without Delay

Log in to your CLAT account, review the allotted seat carefully, and select Freeze or Float within the given time window. Delays can result in automatic cancellation.

Pay the Confirmation Fee on Time

Complete the confirmation fee payment within the deadline to secure your seat. Without payment, the allotment will not be honoured.

Prepare for Document Verification

Keep all required documents ready in scanned format. Any discrepancy found during verification by the NLU can lead to rejection of admission.

Track the Next Allotment Round

If you have chosen Float, monitor the counselling schedule closely for the fourth allotment list and further updates.

CLAT 2026 Next Allotment List Date (4th List) & Full Counselling Schedule

Common Mistakes to Avoid After 3rd Allotment List of CLAT 2026

  • Missing the Freeze/Float/Exit deadline
  • Assuming upgrades will definitely happen in later rounds
  • Choosing Freeze without reviewing higher preferences
  • Forgetting to pay the confirmation fee on time

  • Relying only on email/SMS and not checking the portal
  • Panic exiting counselling without a backup plan
  • Ignoring the university fee deadline after freezing
  • Misunderstanding category or domicile requirements

Seat Not Allotted Yet? Best Backup Options for CLAT 2026 Aspirants

If you still don’t have a seat after the third round, you still have three strong options. The key is to act calmly and strategically.

Option 1: Continue in CLAT Counselling Till Final Rounds

CLAT counselling runs for five rounds, and seats can still open up in the 4th and 5th lists due to withdrawals, non-payment, or last-stage upgrades. If your rank is close to recent cut-offs, staying in the process can still work in your favour.

At this stage, track dates carefully, keep documents ready, and avoid panic decisions. This option suits candidates who are within a realistic range of movement based on past trends.

Option 2: Explore Other Law Entrance Exams & Universities (OLETs)

If CLAT outcomes remain uncertain, exploring Other Law Entrance Tests (OLETs) and private universities is a practical move. These exams have different patterns and timelines, giving you more admission opportunities in the same academic year.

Law Prep’s OLET batches are designed specifically for these exams, focusing on exam-wise strategy and speed. You can also attempt free OLET mock tests to assess your readiness before committing. This option helps you widen choices without losing a year.

Option 3: Take a Planned Drop Year With a Finisher Batch

If your target is top NLUs and your CLAT 2026 rank is close to the CLAT 2026 cut-offs, a planned drop year can be effective—only if it is structured. Law Prep’s Finisher Batch for droppers focuses on advanced practice, mock analysis, and revision rather than basics.

Based on your CLAT 2026 rank, you can also get up to 100% scholarship, making the drop year more affordable and focused on results rather than uncertainty.
