Every year, CLAT produces incredible stories of perseverance and purpose, and Ananya Tamaskar, who secured AIR 3 in CLAT 2025, is one of them. In this exclusive conversation with Law Prep Tutorial, he reflects on his journey from Class 11 preparation to finally living the NLS Bangalore dream.
What makes Ananya’s story stand out is his honesty and humor. He shares how he handled fluctuating mock scores, balanced school and
CLAT preparation, and developed the resilience needed to stay calm through uncertainty. From starting early in 11th grade to solving countless sectionals and mocks, Ananya shows that consistency beats perfection.
Now at NLSIU Bangalore, he candidly talks about law-school life, managing academics with limited sleep, and what future aspirants should focus on (and avoid). His journey proves that preparation is not just about studying harder — it’s about studying smarter.

Interview with Ananya Tamaskar: CLAT 2025 AIR 3
Law Prep: Now that you’re at NLS, do you feel the journey was worth it?
Ananya: Probably — but I think I’ll know for sure by the end of my fifth year! Everyone says law school is a journey to experience, don’t judge too early. Expectations can make you miserable if you’re rigid.
Law Prep: How’s life at NLS so far?
Ananya: It’s fun but chaotic. NLSIU doesn’t let you stick to a fixed routine — academics are part of everything you do. It’s not “padhai with a capital P”; it’s a way of life.
Law Prep: Describe your daily routine in three words.
Ananya: Academics, social life, and sleep — pick two! Right now, sleep is off the menu.
Law Prep: Do you really have weekend classes too?
Ananya: Oh yes! Last Saturday I had three consecutive classes. Sunday is our only free day — if we’re lucky.
Law Prep: What’s been your most memorable NLU experience so far?
Ananya: Orientation week. Seniors would give speeches in a “hello fellow kids” tone — it was hilarious and heartwarming at the same time.
Law Prep: When did you start preparing for CLAT?
Ananya: I began in April 2023 during Class 11. I took CLAT mocks two months later, even when scores were low (around 69 out of 150). Scores fluctuated a lot, but I learned not to panic — experience mattered more than marks.
Law Prep: What’s your advice for 11th vs 12th graders starting CLAT prep?
Ananya:
- For 11th graders: Start early and build strong foundations before taking mocks.
- For 12th graders: Finish basics first — don’t rush into mocks or it can backfire.
Free CLAT Study Material for You:
Law Prep: How important are sectionals and topic tests?
Ananya: Extremely important. I followed a hierarchy — one-liners → sectionals → full-length mocks. Skipping steps leads to gaps later.
Law Prep: How many mocks did you attempt at your peak?
Ananya: Four to five per week at times, though two to three is ideal. Too many leads to burnout.
Law Prep: Which section was toughest for you?
Ananya: GK and Current Affairs for CLAT — they never stop challenging you.
Law Prep: How did you prepare for GK?
Ananya: Two days before CLAT exam, I skimmed the Wikipedia page for 2024 events (laughs). It actually helped, but I don’t recommend that method unless you enjoy rabbit holes.
Law Prep: Was Quant a challenge too?
Ananya: Initially yes — you lose touch with Math after 10th. But once I used the same one-liner → sectional → mock pattern, it became easier. I liked percentages and ratios; permutations were trickier.
Law Prep: Did you ever consider skipping Quant?
Ananya: Never! It was my breathis in the exam — a straightforward section after all the dense reading.
Law Prep: Two must-dos and two must-avoids for CLAT aspirants?
Ananya:
Must-Dos
- Never skip mocks – attempt at least one every week and analyze them properly.
- Don’t ignore Quant – it can rescue you in a tough paper.
Must-Avoids
- Don’t obsess over mock scores; improvement matters more than numbers. I know people who scored 50s in mocks and still ranked under 100.
- Don’t waste energy worrying – anxiety only slows you down.
Law Prep: How important was revision in your prep?
Ananya: Extremely important. Even if you know a topic, revisiting it connects ideas and keeps it fresh. If you can solve it half-asleep, you’ve revised it enough!
