Some success stories shine not because they are perfect, but because they are real. Vinod Charan, a boy from Barmer, Rajasthan, walked into Law Prep Tutorial with no polished English, no “toppers’ background,” and no academic privilege, yet got into NLSIU Bangalore, scoring 91 marks and an under-21 rank in OBC in CLAT 2025.
Vinod’s journey demolishes the myth that CLAT is only for elite English-medium students. His story is about discipline, mindset, and relentless consistency. From scoring 40 in his first CLAT mock test to touching 90+ within months, his transformation shows what structured mentorship and self-belief can achieve.
In this exclusive interview, Vinod Charan speaks honestly about his struggles, the emotional battles after failures, how he built his English from scratch, and how reading habits, mock analysis, and a never-quit attitude changed his life.
His journey is living proof that discipline beats talent – every time.

About Vinod Charan, CLAT 2025 Topper
Vinod hails from Barmer, studied at Lord Satyam School, Jodhpur, and grew up in a simple middle-class environment. There were no elite classmates, no special English exposure — just a boy who loved mischief, back-bench fun, and disturbing the class. His CLAT journey began unexpectedly when his principal, Mukesh Sir, suggested he attempt a “passage-based exam.”
Vinod Charan attempted CLAT once without coaching and realized the exam demanded strong English, reading skills, and strategy. Determined to break barriers, he joined Law Prep Tutorial’s CLAT coaching in Jodhpur, trained rigorously, improved his vocabulary, built reading discipline, and turned his weaknesses into his strengths.
Vinod Charan, AIR 347 CLAT 2025: Interview
Law Prep: Vinod, huge congratulations! How does it feel right now?
Vinod: Thank you so much, sir. It feels unbelievable.
Law Prep: You didn’t look like the “typical topper profile.” How were your school days?
Vinod: Sir, I was a complete backbencher. Not because I didn’t study — but because I loved disturbing the class!
CLAT came into my life when my principal said, “It’s passage-based.” I thought the answers would be inside the passage, so I’d manage. I attempted CLAT once without coaching and then realized how tough it truly is.
Law Prep: Tell us about your school environment.
Vinod: My principal was Mukesh Sir from Lord Satyam School, Nayapura, Jodhpur.
Most students were middle-class. Teaching happened in English and Hindi. No fancy environment — just simplicity.
Law Prep: CLAT is seen as an “elite English exam.” You broke that myth. How?
Vinod: Discipline. Nothing else. Talent matters, but discipline matters more. I worked on English every day. Consistency changed everything.
Law Prep: When did Law Prep Tutorial come into the picture?
Vinod: After seeing that almost every CLAT topper came from Law Prep. I joined, and everything changed — my routine, seriousness, and competitiveness.
Law Prep: Your first mock score?
Vinod: 40 marks. And that too with negatives. I gave the mock and simply left without analysis.
Must Know for Every CLAT Aspirant:
Law Prep: From 40 to 90 is unbelievable. What exactly changed?
Vinod: One thing: Mock Analysis
My system:
- Reattempt every wrong question
- Try solving again without answers
- If still wrong, check the key
- Match reasoning, not blindly correct answers
- Analyse EVERYTHING
You once said, “Analysis gives more benefit than attempting” — I lived by that. Within 2–3 months, I reached 90.
Law Prep: Why did you keep photos of good and bad mocks?
Vinod: To remind myself that anything can happen on exam day. Stay ready for highs and lows.
Law Prep: How did you overcome the English barrier?
Vinod:
- Daily vocabulary
- Root words from Sonia Ma’am
- Read The Hindu (missed only 4–5 days in 6 months)
- Slow reading at night
- Vocab notebook
- Daily comprehension practice
In mocks where RC was 80 marks, I scored 72.
Law Prep: Do you think CLAT-level English can be improved in 6 months?
Vinod: Yes, sir. Definitely. If I can, anyone can.
Law Prep: Explain your exam-day strategy.
Vinod:
- Checked AR – okay
- Checked GK – passage-based
I knew CLAT cut-off would be high → I must score 90+.
My sequence:
- English
- GK
- Legal
- Logical Reasoning
- AR
Didn’t waste time on wrong-data AR questions.
Law Prep: How did you feel after the provisional answer key?
Vinod: I got 92.5. But there were objections on 12–13 questions. I didn’t panic; I knew I’d stay above 90.

Law Prep: Someone said your marks were a “fluke.” How did you respond?
Vinod: He kept repeating it. I distanced myself. I realized — my progress will be decided by time, not people.
Law Prep: You never missed a single mock. How?
Vinod: Consistency.
For CLAT Current Affairs:
- The Hindu daily
- Editorials at night
- Vocab notes
- Very few gap days
Mocks were non-negotiable.
Law Prep: How do you analyze the paper in the first 5 minutes?
Vinod: I scan difficulty.
If GK + AR look easy → paper is easy → cut-off high → target 90+ instantly.
Law Prep: Your journey is incredibly inspiring. Any final message?
Vinod: Discipline beats talent.
Competition is internal.
Never let someone else’s judgement define your capability.
