AIR 7 CLAT 2024

From NEET Failures to CLAT AIR-7: Arjit’s Powerful Comeback Story

Very few journeys are as inspiring as that of Arjit Bansal, who transitioned from multiple unsuccessful NEET attempts to securing AIR 7 in CLAT 2024 and AIR 23 in AILET—all within months. His story is a powerful reminder that academic setbacks do not define your future and that resilience, strategy, and the courage to pivot can completely transform your path.

In this conversation with Sagar Joshi, Founder of Law Prep Tutorial, Arjit opens up about the emotional phases of repeated NEET failures, the confidence and clarity he found while CLAT preparation, his disciplined study routine, the role of mock tests, and his unconventional decision to choose NLU Delhi over NLSIU Bangalore, despite achieving a top rank.

This interview captures not just his strategy, but his mindset—how he fought self-doubt, handled distractions, stayed consistent, and rebuilt his academic identity from scratch. Arjit’s journey is proof that a fresh start can lead to extraordinary success.

Arjit comes from a science background and spent nearly two to three years preparing for NEET, missing the cut-off multiple times despite rigorous effort. Instead of giving up, he chose to explore new opportunities and discovered CLAT. With only 5–6 months of preparation, he cracked both CLAT and AILET with exceptional ranks.

A multi-talented personality—poet, guitarist, singer, and composer—Arjit carries a unique creative streak, but during preparation, he channelled all his focus into perseverance and discipline.

His strategy relied heavily on CLAT mock tests, building Quant strength, maintaining mental balance, and eliminating distractions. Today, he is joining NLU Delhi, choosing breadth of exposure, Delhi’s academic ecosystem, and practical advantages over all else.

Law Prep: Arjit, congratulations! A single-digit rank in your first CLAT attempt—how does it feel?

Arjit: Thank you so much, sir! It feels incredible. After years of struggling with NEET, finally achieving something like this is extremely satisfying.

Law Prep: You gave 2–3 attempts at NEET. What made you shift to CLAT?

Arjit: I missed the NEET cut-off by just a few marks multiple times. After a point, I felt I should stop limiting myself and explore new paths. That’s when I turned to CLAT.

Law Prep: Students worry about “how much time is enough.” How long did you prepare?

Arjit: Around 5–6 months. But it depends on your starting point. Some need two years, some one year, and some can crack it in three to four months. It’s not about content—it’s about practice and efficiency.

Law Prep: Which subject is the most important for CLAT?

Arjit: All subjects matter because CLAT cut-offs fluctuate. But Quant is a game-changer. It’s the only section where you can potentially score full marks. Those 12–15 marks can change your rank drastically.

Law Prep: How many hours did you study per day?

Arjit:

  • First 2 months: 12 hours/day
  • Mid phase: 8–10 hours/day
  • Last 2 months: 6–8 hours/day

I never restricted myself to a number. If you can study more, do it. More study never harms.

Law Prep: Attention span is a big issue for aspirants. How did you stay focused?

Arjit: I switched sections whenever boredom kicked in. GK and Quant activate different thinking compared to English or Legal. Switching keeps your mind fresh.

Law Prep: Your first mock score was 31. How did you go from 31 to AIR 7?

Arjit: Low scores in CLAT mocks motivated me. They showed me exactly what to work on. High scores hide weaknesses. Low scores give direction.

Law Prep: Did mental strength matter during CLAT prep?

Arjit: Definitely. If your mind is distracted, even easy passages feel difficult. Taking short breaks and maintaining emotional balance is essential.

Law Prep: Did you keep your phone during prep? How did you avoid distraction?

Arjit: I needed my phone for CLAT current affairs and material, so I couldn’t switch it off. But I removed unnecessary apps. If I ever felt tempted, I’d give it to my mother.

Law Prep: You’re a poet, guitarist, and singer. Did these hobbies help you or distract you?

Arjit: During preparation for CLAT, I cut down on everything except music. Music helped me relax for 5–10 minutes whenever I felt mentally saturated.

Law Prep: Despite scoring AIR 7, you chose NLU Delhi over NLSIU Bangalore. Why?

Arjit: Since I changed career paths, I wanted maximum exposure. NLU Delhi offers unmatched opportunities—internships, coaching, proximity to the Supreme Court, and a rich academic ecosystem. Also, I live close to Delhi.

Law Prep: You faced repeated failures in NEET. How did you stay motivated?

Arjit:

I didn’t allow myself to overthink. I kept working and told myself I would reflect after the exam.
My mother, my brother (who also cleared CLAT), and my friends supported me deeply. A support system matters more than we realize.

Law Prep: What message would you give to NEET droppers who feel stuck?

Arjit:

Don’t give up. Explore new paths. Ask yourself what else you’re good at.
Keep trying—success will come in some form. Your life is bigger than one exam.

Law Prep: How would you rate Law Prep Tutorial as a support system?

Arjit: LPT is one of the most trusted and established institutes with 4.9 ratings and 1000+ reviews. But more than teaching, it’s the personal mentorship that matters. Law Prep provides that strongly.
