Devansh Agarwal’s journey to NLSIU Bangalore stands out because he balanced heavy school responsibilities with CLAT preparation. While most students cut down activities, Devansh was his school’s Head Boy, Secretary-General of the MUN, and actively involved in multiple responsibilities throughout Class 12.
Yet, he cracked CLAT with an outstanding rank. His approach focused on early foundation building in Class 11, structured CLAT preparation in Class 12, consistent mocks, detailed analysis, and disciplined GK note-making.
CLAT topper Devansh Agarwal shares how he managed time, the role of mentor guidance, why mock analysis matters more than mock frequency, and how he gradually improved his scores with a calm, consistent strategy.

Interview of Devansh Agarwal (AIR-70 CLAT 2025)
Law Prep: Devansh, how are you feeling after this incredible achievement?
Devansh: It feels amazing. Every law aspirant dreams of NLSIU, and knowing that I’m finally getting in—with the confidence that my rank secures it—feels fantastic.
Law Prep: Walk us through your journey-your subjects, time management, and your last six months of prep.
Devansh: My journey was a little different because Class 12 was extremely hectic. I was the Head Boy, the Secretary-General of the MUN, and involved in several school events. Honestly, I used to wonder if taking so many responsibilities was a mistake during CLAT prep.
But eventually, everything worked out.
Law Prep: When did you start preparing for CLAT?
Devansh: I began in Class 11 around August.
Initially, my focus was on building a solid foundation in Legal, LR, English, Quant, and GK.
But the real, high-intensity preparation started in Class 12—around March–April.
That’s when I increased mock frequency, made structured GK notes, and started following multiple quality sources.

Law Prep: Students are always confused about mock tests and strategy. What was your approach?
Devansh: Mock analysis is more important than mock quantity.
It’s not about giving four mocks a week—it’s about analyzing them properly.
I always checked:
- Why did I make a mistake?
- Was it a conceptual gap or a silly error?
- What steps do I take so it never repeats?
In CLAT, questions rarely repeat, but our mistakes definitely do. My improvement was gradual—not a jump from 20s to 90s. Consistent analysis made all the difference.
Law Prep: You handled school events and studies together. How did you balance both?
Devansh: Till August of Class 12, I continued my school activities. It was difficult but manageable. After August, I stopped participating in school events and focused 100% on CLAT.
Law Prep: What were your strong and weak subjects?
Devansh: I didn’t have extreme strengths or weaknesses. I genuinely enjoyed Quant and making GK notes. Legal and LR were fine as well.
Around April–May, I solved a lot of LSAT and GMAT RC + CR questions. That boosted my reasoning ability significantly. CLAT isn’t about 12–14 hours every day; it’s about consistent practice.
Law Prep: What did you do when you were stuck or had doubts?
Devansh: I approached my mentors immediately.
I was under Rajneesh Sir, and even during lockdown, I had late-night sessions for doubt resolution—even at 2–3 AM sometimes.
If you let doubts pile up, they start affecting your confidence, accuracy, and mock performance.
Law Prep: How did you attempt the actual CLAT paper? Did you follow a strict pattern?
Devansh: Initially, I used a fixed order:
English → GK → Legal → Quant → Logic
This acted like a good mental break sequence for me. But eventually, I realised a rigid time plan doesn’t work. Some passages are easy, some unexpectedly tough.
So I switched to a passage-by-passage approach. I didn’t force myself to finish passages in fixed minutes. If something was easy, I finished quickly. If it was hard, I took the time I needed.
