Educational Qualification

The minimum qualification required to apply online for a Gujarat Civil Judge vacancy:

  • Have a Degree in Law from any recognised University.
  • Pass the vernacular (Gujarati) language proficiency test.
  • Must be practising as an Advocate in Courts of Civil and/or Criminal Jurisdiction or must be working in the Courts or other Allied Departments 
  • Must have a Certificate of Basic Knowledge of Computer Application / Operation.

  • Go to the official GHC website, https://gujarathighcourt.nic.in/
  • Click the “Apply Online for Civil Judge Vacancy 2026” link.
  • Enter all required information, including a valid mobile number, email address, and other details.
  • Save the online application form, and “Candidate’s Application Number” will appear on your screen.
  • Upload a scanned copy of your photograph and signature in the prescribed size and format.
  • Pay the application fee through the prescribed payment mode, i.e., Online Payment or Offline Cash Challan. The application fee is expected to be INR 2000 (INR 1000 for SC/ST/SEBC/PwBD).
  • Take the printout of the application form and the payment receipt for future reference.

Gujarat Judiciary Vacancy 2026: Selection Process

The Gujarat Judiciary Civil Judge selection process comprises three stages: Prelims, Main, and Interview.

  • Preliminary Exam: Also known as the elimination objective-type test, it has 2 papers. Paper I (Law) and Paper II (Test of Gujarati Language). The prelims exam will be conducted on the OMR Sheet.
  • Main Exam: Candidates declared qualified in the prelims exam will be shortlisted for the Main Exam. It shall consist of two descriptive-type papers, each carrying 100 marks. The exam duration will be 3 hours for each paper.
  • Interview: All the main qualified candidates will be shortlisted for the Viva-voce (Oral Interview) test. The Viva-voce Test shall carry 50 marks. It is conducted to assess the candidate’s suitability for the post by evaluating their mental alertness, knowledge of law, and other qualities.

The GJS Preliminary Exam (Elimination Test) is an OMR-based objective-type test. It is divided into two papers:

The preliminary exam comprises multiple-choice questions (MCQs). There will be a negative marking of 0.33 marks for every wrong/multiple answer. The medium of the question paper will be English only.

Candidates who are declared successful in the preliminary exam will be called to appear in the main examination. The GJS Civil Judge Main written exam will be descriptive and consist of two papers:
